Peace-loving Boholanos observe Provincial Day of Peace

Bohol leaders, national, provincial and city government offices, the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police, as well as business sector, civil society, and students attended Provincial Day of Peace on Thursday, February 11. 
This year’s  theme is  Kahiusahan, Kalinaw, Ug Kalambuan on the observance of the
Six years ago, the province was declared insurgency-free. In 2014, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan passed Resolution 2014-005 declaring February 11 as Provincial Day of Peace in order to put value on peace, order and human security. It also saw to the launching of a Non-killing Boholano society where rule of law prevails. 
The program featured messages of peace from Vice Gov. Concepcion Lim through Board Member Abel Damalerio, City Administrator Edi Borja in behalf of Mayor Baba Yap, as well as messages from 302nd Brigade Commander Col. Arnulfo Matangguihan and PNP Provincial Director Dennis Agustin. 
The messages centered on the achievement of peace and subsequent progress in Bohol as well the goal of keeping the peace to ensure development continues. 
Gov. Edgar Chatto, in a message read by Board Member Benjie Arcamo underscored peace as a shared responsibility as he spoke of peace as a prerequisite to development. 
The governor thanked law enforcers, citizens, students, professionals, farmers, fisher folks, and all Boholanos who are united in working towards making Bohol crime-free, insurgency free, drug free , trouble free. “Our collective sacrifice is best rewarded with a progressive society founded on peace, harmony & mutual respect, he said. 
Chatto also put premium on the Boholano Youth who are the hopes of the future. He said their dynamism, energy and vigor can transform communities and societies for the better. He added it is through our empowered youth where the seeds of lasting peace are best sown and that they too will enjoy the fruits of a bountiful harvest in the future – better lives for them,  families of their own and the next generation. 
Also a key point in Chatto’s message is the collective war against illegal drugs. He urged Boholanos to be counted in efforts to ensure drug lords, drug traders and drug protectors will not be allowed to weaken and ruin the fragile fabric of our socio-economic, political & moral institutions. 
As a highlight of the Provincial Peace Day, Boholanos lit candles and formed the peace sign and sang to Let There Be Peace on Earth with a symbolic releasing of doves at  the CPG Sports Complex.
The program also featured slogan making contests and song and dance presentations depicting the achievement of peace. 
The Provincial Day of Peace began with a Run/Walk for Peace at 4:00 in the morning followed by a Holy Mass officiated by Bishop Leonardo Medroso at St. Joseph’s Cathedral. A motorcade preceded the program held in the afternoon.
